要旨/ Abstract:

This contribution looks at international student migrations from and to Asia from the venture point of these migrations being complex travelling processes. Student migrations are usually examined under the aspect of their magnitude, their direction (with the bulk of publications inquiring into Asian students migrations to Western destinations) and the obstacles endured while on the move. This contribution will rather concentrate upon first, the processes of students’ personal becoming, second, their relations with what they leave at home, and third, with how the academic environments are shaped and changing when people and ideas travel. Travelling is a deeply transformational experience, entailing the processes of separation, transition, and the challenges at the destinations. This contribution will follow selected students’ trajectories and their reflections  on their self-determination and performative disposition, on their narratives of struggle and on exploring uncertain environments, and the enjoyment of the unexpected.
